Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
